As an Amsterdam artist, I have been working with children since the beginning of my practice. I give workshops, worked as a childminder and since 2019 I have been active as an artist in the classroom at primary schools. I love the creativity, wonder and openness of children. Picasso did not say for nothing: "Every child is an artist."

In addition to my work as an artist, I am also an upcycle fashion designer. For secondary education, I teach the workshop Fashion and Identity: the history of clothing, fast fashion and possible solutions. With my patterns, a sewing machine and old jeans, I teach the students to make a garment or accessory, or to pimp old clothing with textile paint.

This workshop is like a Swiss army knife: unique and multifunctional!

Discover your passion in the creative carousel, where you can watercolor, sculpt, make jewelry, embroider, crochet, knit, fashion design, make collages and more. It's all about freedom of choice: you can't make a fish climb a tree. What you like to do is also your talent. Many talents and skills of a child remain underexposed.

All this under the inspiring guidance of visual artist Ageethe Groenendaal. I want to give the students the satisfaction of manual work. I also stimulate their creativity and fine motor skills.

Uh, yeah, I hear you thinking. It's a name with a wink, of course. Because toddlers, well, most of them can't tie shoelaces yet.

But they are interested in many subjects. They find it super interesting to know how insects communicate and breathe. What a robot is and what they are used for, and so on. Humans are inherently inquisitive creatures. The program at school could stimulate that. Too much is asked of toddlers and too little is given. The brain connections of toddlers must first be filled with experiences, only then will the connections work better. We can practice as much as we like with sounds, rhymes, numbers or letters. If a child is not in the period in which he or she is extra sensitive to this development, it costs him or her a lot of effort.

I try to let the children work as freely as possible with the materials provided, just as an artist works freely in his studio. This is called, in modern terms, process-oriented tinkering.

The teaching material (explanation of the subject and craft possibilities) can be supplemented with exercises to promote phonetic awareness, movement exercises, English songs (Want to increase your English vocabulary? You learn to do that in a playful way by singing!) and philosophizing with children. Depending on the daily schedule and group dynamics.
